Brief:
Create an experimental and abstract font that uses methods of camouflage.
Client:
Self Initiated
Deliverables:
Font, Type specimen
About:
By applying the naturally occurring camouflage technique Disruptive Colouration, the style of camouflage used by Zebra, I embedded camouflage directly into the letterforms rather than relying on colour or pattern.
The pattern zebra uses is a unique natural camouflage technique, rather than blending into its surroundings, a zebra pattern blurs the lines between individuals in a herd. By applying this idea to typography, I created letters that remain identifiable in isolation, but when combined into words or sentences, the boundaries between letters become difficult to distinguish, transforming text into a complex arrangement of lines that requires time and patience to decipher.
The core aim of this project was to challenge the conventional purpose of typography. While efficiency and readability are central to many modern typefaces, I created a font that deliberately defies that idea.
